Guilds of Clash of Titans
United Commonwealth – A militia formed by the now half-demon Nathan Marshall, whose sole purpose is to protect and rebuild. They are stationed in the fortress-like city of Boston, and they have turned the metropolis into…well, a heavily fortified fortress. Since the events of the War on ANGEL in 203X, the guild was formed in the name of never allowing history to repeat itself. Ever. Considering its leader was once among the former conglomerate’s military ranks, it’s hard to trust the man or even know what his true intentions are. Rumors abound dictate that he had never been for the organization, and was a key component in its quickly decelerating fall from grace.
The United Commonwealth functions exactly like the American militaries, complete with a ground operating force, an airforce, a navy and a special forces unit. Utilizing technology from all sorts of sources like ANGEL, the Federal Government, and even technology of its own build, the militia has managed to build cutting edge combat vehicles for land, air and sea, a wide array of powerful weapons ranging from simple firearms to complex mounted computer-operated turrets, to even weaponized buildings to name a few. Rest assured, their arsenal is much more expansive than what is presented!
Joining the United Commonwealth is as easy as taking a test and signing a paper, but once in, you can never leave until your predetermined years of service are completed. The test pits your mind against challenging problem-solving skills that would make a PhD bang his head against a wall, and your body against vigorous obstacles even Marines would tremble at. Yes, the Commonwealth takes the protection of Eastern Massachusetts very seriously, and they will fight anyone—anyone, regardless of race or relation with other guilds—who dares threaten the solid peace that has returned to the state.
Fallen – After the fall of ANGEL in 203X and its subsequent crash in the stock market, many thought that the sinister organization’s shadow over Southern Massachusetts had, at last, dissolved. Not completely, however. While a large percentage of ANGEL’s staff died or were taken prisoner during the Final Assault, the remaining survivors fled in life subs, hoping to rebuild.
Without the proper funds, the survivors were left hopeless with nothing more than supernatural abilities they could not control and weapons that now served a one-time use. Landing on a beach in Cod Islands—imagine a mass exodus of well over 30 thousand former ANGEL troops—their one hope was a small group of bank robbers. Cha-Ching! Funds. Led by a man who spent more than twenty years robbing banks and working as a double agent, Michael, they were renamed the Fallen, and their new goal is clear. Rebuild ANGEL to its former glory, and retake their spot in the world.
Trained by an unknown man to hone their aura abilities, the Fallen soon learned to keep their spiritual presence to a minimum, to that on par of an average human (like Michael!). The Fallen are an exclusive group, and becoming part of the guild is not easy. Simply having ANGEL on your resume is not enough to show your worth to these formerly glorified supersoldiers. Maybe get buddy-buddy with their leader Michael and see what kind of favors you can pull with him to get in…?
Resurrection Hellfires – Thousands of years old, dating back to the earliest signs of modern civilization, they gathered. Powerful beings trapped in human avatars, they only work towards one single goal: bring humanity to its knees with the most powerful demons they can summon. Achieving that end is simple, yet intricately laid out. Every one-thousand years, a new circle of Nine Grand Elders are anointed to head the Council. The Grand Elders then set out on quests, gathering dark energy and hunting rare and valuable artifacts. The why of these artifacts is unknown, other than the speculation of the energy they possess, which is equally dark. When it is time to conduct the resurrection of demons, each Grand Elder sacrifices themselves, one at a time over a span of anywhere between a week to a decade, feeding the ritual the dark energy it needs to bring its intended demon to the mortal plane.
Above using technology, the Grand Elders instead find it convenient to stick to the ways of the olden days, using swords, shields, maces and whatever other medieval style weaponry they can forge or get their hands on. Powerful magic is not out of their realm of possibilities, either, as cult mages conjure spells ranging from simple aura missiles to outright mass summonings spanning the size of a borough in New Haven. Even their choice of transportation is without technology. Horses, horse-drawn carriages, traveling by foot or even desummoning like Hellion demons are their methods, unless a quest calls otherwise.
Joining them can happen. It’s feasible, really. You just don’t find them.
They find you…
Immemorial, Inc. – Immemorial, Inc. is dedicated to collecting and preserving artifacts of varying value and power. Anything from a small golden coin from Roman times to a mandrake root from over a century ago goes into their safe vaults, guarded by the tightest security they can afford. They function quite a bit like the Mafia, and rumor has it they are heavily funded by it as well. Their major job demands lie in archaeology and paleontology, and much like Resurrection Hellfires, you don’t just find them. They scope you out based on your skillset and draft you.
Much like the Mafia, the employees of Immemorial, Inc. are garbed in professional, classy dress such as suits and ties or business casual attire. Also much like the Mafia, they conceal carry and use code words and phrases to pass messages to one another. They even operate small businesses to further fund their ambitions.
River City Revelations – A guild of computer scientists and geeks from all walks of life in the run-down River City, they are heavily funded despite their small size. Headed by the late Matthew Aiden, a former ANGEL IT Overseer whose consciousness is stored on a salvaged supercomputer hidden somewhere beneath the city’s streets, the small group managed to hack into River City’s mainframe and overtake the city in every aspect. From finances to traffic control to even law enforcement, the Revelations have virtually turned their town around. Despite its grimy and run-down appearance, River City and its citizens enjoy a well-maintained economy, a valuable dollar and low unemployment rate.
Its guild members are as average as me or you. They hold average jobs, have average meetings, and blend in well with society without once tipping off that they have a secret second life. Adding to that secrecy, they live in abodes reflective of their jobs and income. No one truly knows who is in with the Revelations. All the city knows is, the swamp is cleared and the greater area is next on the list.
This guild is closed off from joining.
HUDSON – The Hypertravel Unity of Dimensional Scantlings and Occlusions to Netherrealms is an organization dedicated to researching the Void, a central “control unit” for tears leading to parallel universes. More of a research group than a guild, HUDSON wishes to further the understanding of interuniversal and interplanar travel. Under the protection of the United Commonwealth and The Archives’, their information is highly sensitive and requires top secret security clearance to even look at.
The Archives – Founded over a millenia ago, the Archives' is a powerful group of supernaturals with only two primary goals: maintaining the balance of supernatural powers and preserving knowledge in its grand library. Simply put the Archives' sees to it that no one supernatural power rises to influence the majority of the Earth while filling its vaults with the collected knowledge of the world.
They operate in secret and outside the law, abiding the local laws only to the extent it keeps them undetected till they strike. They leave no calling card. They make no announcements of there actions, before or after. If you are targeted the only warning you get is the collection team busting into your room. The exact nature of the events should forever remain a mystery.
They have many strongholds and safe houses around the world. The sizes ranging from huge self sufficient underground fortress cities of over half a million to small mom and pops with barely a half a dozen employees.
It's primary fighting branch is known simply as Collections. The branch's missions are generally to protect people and items of importance. It is not uncommon to be task with assassination or chaos missions to prevent a group or organization from upsetting the balance of power. The members of the Collections branch are all top notch fighters equipe with the equipment that would not be out of place in the most extreme scifi or fantasy setting.
The Archives' top members, those that hold the rank of Librarian, are said to be able to go toe to toe with the Lords of Hell and the Archangels of Heaven. Those that hold of the rank of Head Librarian are rumored to be on par with gods in power.
Joining the Archives' is not hard, one must simply be sponsored in by a Librarian. To rise in rank, one must prove your worth in the missions assigned. It's symbol is simply a tree.
RNA - The RNA is a group equipped with the most cutting edge military technology, generations ahead of any other group. The technology seems to have come from outer space. No, the technology has come from outer space. Spies and long range sensors have proven that there is routine shuttle traffic to and from space over the island size ship serving as their base of operations.
The current RNA planetary base of operations is an reactivated and slightly refurbished Aspidochelone class colony ship they keep moving through the oceans at roughly 5 knots inside the tropic belt. The huge sea turtle shape ship is 20 kilometers in length or roughly as long as Manhattan Island. The cracked open shell houses a small city, lake, military base and twin airports all nested inside a lush jungle. The runways in fact extends out through the shell forward, aft, and to the side on the turtle. The island base is protected by a huge fleet of dreadnaughts and other warships.
The turtle island is not there only base as their forces have appeared randomly around the world to preform some operation then vanish again without a trace. It is rumored that the forces are being teleported or portalled into and out of areas of operation.
Joining seems to be invite only as their ranks are full up. Proper paperwork to reach their mobile island seems to be hard to come by as well. Sneaking onto the island is likely impossible and suicidal.
