Races of Clash of Titans
Humans – A common race. Humans are capable of just about anything, as they have managed to evolve and survive for hundreds of thousands of years. Able to adapt to any situation to suit their survival needs, humans truly are a force to be reckoned with, even without fancy aura techniques and shifting to different forms. With wit and intuition at the forefront of their small but powerful arsenal, the human can learn, adapt, survive, repeat. They live relatively short lifespans, anywhere from 70 to 100 years tops. Vanity pushes the human to make achievements none think possible, to leave as deep an impact in the history books as they can. Several humans, if trained well enough, can even use basic-level abilities such as aura control and even telekinesis.
Demons – Thought to have originated in the pits of Hell itself, demons are closest with nature and spiritual energy despite their race. Safe to say their actual origin is that of nature and of earth, but most of them being pushed into Hell by more “holy” races have split the breed down the middle into Earthbound and Hellion demons. There are several subtypes of demons, but most of them are either Animal or Elemental Demons. Regardless of type, all demons share certain similarities. Physically, they're quite simply better than humans. They hit harder, run faster, and can take more punishment. It takes an exceptional human to take on a demon in a fistfight. Nearly all demons can disguise themselves as humans, usually with some inconsistency that will display their true nature. All demons have at least one unique ability that separates them from the general population.
The most common demons are Animal Demons. They have at least three forms: an animal form, a human form (always with some aspect of their animal visible), and a demon, or hybrid, form that takes on aspects of both. The hybrid form is their "true" form, and may display demonic aspects (like spikes or wings) in addition to animal ones. Some Animal Demons have additional transformations, usually a second demon form or a larger, more powerful animal form.
Other demon types include elemental, razak, imps…the list goes on!
Angels – The antithesis of the demon is the angel. They are opposites in philosophy, but shockingly similar in abilities. Just like their darker or closer to nature counterparts, the demons, they are physically superior to humans, they can disguise themselves as human (again with some small detail to give away their true nature), and all angels have some special abilities. There are nine types of angels, but only two have ever been found on Earth.
The most common angel is, well, the Angel. In addition to the human forms that most angels have, the Angel has a true form that looks like a beautiful winged human. Angels excel at both Healing and Light magic, though it's not unheard of for them to use other elements. It's rare that an angel becomes a true warrior, but most of them can handle themselves in a fight.
The Archangels are the leaders, the commanders, and the mighty warriors of the Heavenly Host. It's not unheard of for younger Archangels to be sent to Earth on divine missions to gain experience and wisdom. While Angels typically specialize in Healing and Light magic, Archangels tend to be masters of Light and one other, more combat-oriented element. For the Archangel is a warrior: a master of weapons (the sword and the mace are their preferred weapons), combat, and perhaps most importantly, combat magic. Archangels are not one for subtlety, and as such never have a human form. Instead they have only their natural form: that of a human, but with skin that appears metallic and two to six wings.
Fallen Angels – Not demons as once they were to be believed as. Fallen angels are just that; celestial beings that have fallen from heaven's and God's grace. Sympathizers of human plight, or of demon suffering, they do not adhere to the strict rites of God, and thus have been exiled and cast from Heaven. They walk as humans most times, hiding away their wings that have had their plumes dyed a deep black. Fallen Angels are slow aging like demons, and possess holy abilities though they are considerably weaker to those of the Celestial and Angel race. Although fallen, they shouldn't be trifled with lightly. Even thin looking angels have the body strength of a demon.
Werewolves – A race of human cursed by the bite of another to change forms at the sight of a full moon. Once a terrible creature hunted down and burnt at the stake, these beings find themselves more welcome now amidst the rise of demons and others of their ilk. They appear human enough, but may have some canine tendencies. They forge strong bonds with those they like, and have a limited understanding of aura use, but their true strength lies in their second form. Even though a werewolf may choose to change at any time, they cannot withstand the urge to change during a full moon, and have a short temper even to those they know. Natural aversion to silver aside, they boast magnificent disease resistant and resilient bodies.
Vampires – Children of the night, and called so for reasons. Vampires are at the mercy of the sun and get painful blisters and burns when flesh is exposed to it. Constant exposure may turn them to ash or put them on full blown fire. Photosensitive, meaning bright light can be painful for their eyes, they prefer stormy or cloudy days, and usually venture outside once the sun is below the horizon. They look as human as can be, fangs, ashen skin, and blood red eyes aside, but are commented on for their unnatural beauty. Don't be fooled, for a vampire is a cunning and manipulative thing when it wants and can lure others into a sense of security with their hypnotic ways. Whichever body type they posess, a vampire is on par with a werewolf in strength. Rule of thumb is a vampire needs blood to survive and may find other foods bland and unable to fill the hole in their gut. Many drink animal blood for sustinance, but a few still prefer humans. Even more rare are those in the medical business that although unable to clone humans have been able to clone blood into a synthetic blend to handle their needs. It's a lucrative business still in its infancy. Any mortal bitten by a vampire may become one as well, except for werewolves as their blood is resistant to all diseases. Because of this a vampire cannot also be a werewolf.
Elves – (patent pending)
Halfbreeds – Is a common enough term on its own as an offspring of two different species, but two major ones stand out. Human and Demon, or Demon and Angel.
The most common is that of a human and demon, resulting in a slowly aging child with tendencies or characteristics of their demonic parent showing through if genetics are strong enough. Though not overly strong in body or aura use, they have the intelligence of most humans, and a drive to survive that even overshadows them.
Angel and Demon is the lesser known one. Born between eternal enemies, these half breeds have been known to possess so much aura that they are driven mad. Slow aging, possessing powers beyond both sides, and the invulnerability to both holy and demonic auras, these are most often considered abominations.
Mongrels – The "clearance bin" of genetics. Mongrels are mostly beings with blood from many other races intermingling within their bodies. Angel, demon and human. Or Werewolf, vampire and elf. Because of the mixes of blood, one is never sure what positive or negative traits one has until they explore aura use, which can be just as erratic. Some may have a small puddle while others an overwhelming surge of aura. Mongrels sadly are few and far between as the races choose to mostly stick to their own kind, and because mortality rates of mongrels are so high, mostly from bullying and inter species hatred.
Infected – An infected being is any biological being who is possessed by a powerful and strange, otherworldly artifact. The infected subject could be anything, from a simple human to a powerful demon, to a vampire or even a werewolf. Infected beings are subjugated to the will of their parasitic artifact, slowly blackening their blood and threading into their tissue. Eventually, much like Lyme disease, the infected’s immune system and central nervous system are attacked, compromising its immunity to illness and releasing it from its sense of self. The amount of time it takes for a regular being to become infected is largely dependent on its willpower to fight, amount of aura it has to combat the artifact, and overall strength. Some cases have pointed out that most beings can go years before submitting to the cruel fate of becoming the spirit of an artifact. Others go on to point that some beings simply die, transformed hideously into vile beasts, never to return to their old form. At that point, it is best to just kill it and put the host out of its misery. The only humane thing to do, really. An infected’s allegiance is solely with the mysterious guild known as the Red Blood Moon Children, whose goals are currently unknown. An AI cannot be infected by an artifact.
Elementals – A form of supernatural, or a regular human, an elemental being is one who is in touch with the element they are born with. Said element is innate at birth, and can be one of many, many kinds of elements. The most common types are the four core elementals, fire users, water users, air users and earth users. However, you will meet other types of elementals, ones who can control and bend light or metal to their will, or manipulate gravity for their own benefits. They have a large amount of aura dedicated to one single element, and cannot learn any other elements alongside their innate abilities without aid from an artifact or an item.
Ancients – Not much is known about the Ancients, except that they are a sacred bloodline with a close connection to the planet and spirits. Very few live in the Southern Massachusetts region especially, with the only defining feature on them being their odd eye color, slanted eye shape, and pale skin color. They also radiate with a powerful energy that even the weakest of humans can see their aura surrounding them in a thin spiritual layer. Ancients are capable of powerful magic attacks, using the planet as their means to channel and manipulate aura and energy. Just like humans, Ancients can live a span of 70 to 100 years.
Celestials - Celestial beings are heavenly beings who served past gods and goddesses. They typically have long lives and still hold great powers. They may serve the current king of heaven or hold true to their god and continue to serve them. They possess great beauty but have forms distinctly different from that of angels. Like demons, they come in many forms and often use human avatars to disguise themselves, with one single detail to give them away from the rest of the populace. An animal tail, a different color of hair, eye or skin. Celestials are considered even more powerful than angels, although no one has truly put that theory to the test quite yet.
Experimentals – Genetic experimentation is still a thing, even thirty years after the fall of ANGEL. Experimental beings used to be normal races like demons, angels or even humans. But with enough tinkering in their genetic makeup, they became entirely different beings with a wide array of ungodly abilities. Experimentals are, obviously, artificially created beings and can easily be confused with mongrels. What sets the experimental apart from other races isn’t in the techniques they use, but in the ability to shift forms. Where a werewolf, a demon or a vampire can change a form with no physical consequence upon changing back, an experimental being will break entire bones and lose layers of skin to these transformations as a drawback to their mutations. In most cases, even aura attacks can drain an experimental faster than supernatural beings. They are a deadly force to be reckoned with, both to the world and to themselves.
AI – Artificial Intelligence. It can come in many forms. From supercomputers hardwired into facilities and cities, to androids disguised as mere people like you and me, they are considered ageless. Their only “birth” is the day of creation, and from then on, they “grow” and “mature” by learning through complex algorithms programmed into their brains—memory drives, really. The most common types of AI are, as stated, androids wandering through the city streets, blending in with the races. However, much larger AI can exist, some as large as space stations. The larger ones’ only drawbacks? Being in a fixed position. Just imagine an entire sentient building, consciously trying to kill you, or help you. Better yet, how about a city?
Dragon - Rare to the surface world of man. These reptilian creatures of miasma and flame were thought to be legend until the seal broke and they returned from Hell. On the surface these monstrous beasts cannot collapse into a human form, and are stuck in their true skin. Horned, winged, or an assortment of spikes, if it flies and spits fire then it's a dragon. They rival the description of the Ancient race with their amazingly slow age rate that allows them to watch millenniums pass with the blink of an eye. They can learn aura for their breath attack, but are stuck with a set of no more than two or three elements. Beware these cunning brutes; they would love nothing more than to see the fall of man.
Humans – A common race. Humans are capable of just about anything, as they have managed to evolve and survive for hundreds of thousands of years. Able to adapt to any situation to suit their survival needs, humans truly are a force to be reckoned with, even without fancy aura techniques and shifting to different forms.
